Born in Oklahoma as the youngest of 7, Merrady was moved to the Appalachians of South Carolina, then to the Rockies, joining her mother’s 16 siblings in Utah. She shyly sang church hymns, broadway musicals, and classic rock, until picking up a household guitar at 11, and never putting it down.
She left Utah for Florida, then Alabama, London, and finally New York where the overwhelmingly positive response to her original material convinced her to begin recording.
Merrady’s debut EP, “Merrady and Gene”, is a stunning collaboration with indie violinist Gene Back which combines elements of folk, rock, and classical music. Smoky vocals set against everything from guitars to violins to vibraphones pull the listener into a world captured by Brooklyn producer Nathan Rosenberg of The Doghouse NYC.
Recent comparisons have been made to Fiona Apple, Cat Power, and Jeff Buckley in both style and the strength of her songwriting.
Merrady recently moved to Long Beach, California where she is playing in an indie ensemble “Lucky Penny”, hosting an open mic at local venue Que Sera, and writing music for her next project.
